The struggle is real

We are only human. We all have “off” days. Y’know what I’m talking about. The ones where the gym is the last place you want to be… where an ice cream cake sounds like the perfect dinner… where the sofa, tv, and a bag of chips sounds like the ideal day.

Last week Thursday, I skipped my morning workout, got pizza for lunch, and sat on the sofa all night and didn’t get up. Did I feel bad about it? Kind of. Did I kick myself down for it? Absolutely not.

Something I try to remember is that tomorrow is a new day. When you work hard, train hard, and eat well, one “off day” isn’t going to throw you wildly off track from your goals.

But, what if you never feel like eating well or working out? Well, then the bigger question is… why not?

Are you enjoying what you’re doing in the gym, or for your workouts? Why are you “dieting” or “exercising”? What kind of goals do you have? Are you trying to reach those goals for you or for someone else? The reason behind your motivation to succeed (in anything in life, really) has to be intrinsic. Set goals because you want to achieve them. Set goals because you know you can reach them.

While we are on the topic of goal setting, let’s make sure you understand what makes a realistic goal. Is your goal SMART?

S = Specific

M = Measurable

A = Attainable

R = Realistic

T = Timely

Having a SMART goal means your goal is all-encopassing — specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and timely. An example of a SMART goal is: “I will lose 5 pounds, in 1 month, by training with BodyRx twice a week”. Setting these types of goals not only keeps you accountable, but it keeps you motivated. Hitting little milestones are better than hitting no milestones.

Find your fix.
